A group in Norman planned a town hall meeting to discuss the animal shelter for Monday. Norman Animal Welfare Now (NAWN) volunteers said there will be experts in animal rescue and shelter management at the event to talk about best practices and renew the focus on saving the lives of homeless animals.

In 2011, Norman's Chamber of Commerce unanimously passed a resolution to fund a new shelter.

That shelter is set to triple in size, but according to Rebecca Bean with NAWN, it does not yet have a foster or volunteer program in place. The new shelter also does not yet have a veterinarian or vet tech for certain procedures set to be offered at the facility, Bean told News 9.

Experts from the Animal Shelter Oversight Committee, among others, will be at the event to answer questions and talk about the future of the new animal shelter.

The meeting is open to the public at the Norman Public Library at 226 W. Gray Street from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
