A Norman man known to generations of OU students and faculty has lost the most precious thing he owned.

Calvin Steves suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding his bike 40 years ago.

Steves has done his best cobbling out a life since, selling Norman Transcript Newspapers around campus for most of the past four decades.

Steves said Sunday morning he lost track of his 1981 Norman High School class ring. He thinks it fell off his finger somewhere around his sister's house near Tenth and Boyd, while he was waiting to get picked up to go to church.

The ring is gold, Steves says it has his diamond birth stone on it, his first name is engraved on it, and his initials are engraved on the inside.

“Really frustrated,” Steves said Wednesday afternoon, as he pulled his wagon full of newspapers around campus.

Steves is easy to spot around campus, because he is always wearing an Oklahoma Sooner jacket, and either a Sooner helmet, or an Oklahoma City Thunder helmet.

Friends have started a social media campaign to help look for Calvin's lost ring.

Steves said he's already begun saving money for a new ring. He's saved $80 so far.

Steves said a new ring will cost $551.

“I've looked all over the place at the house, all over,” he said.
