The Dallas Cowboys have released former Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden, the team announced on Tuesday. The move creates a roster spot for starter Tony Romo to make his return this week.

Weeden started three games in Romo’s absence throwing 666 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions as the Cowboys lost to Atlanta, New Orleans and New England. He has 738 yards and two touchdowns on the season.

Weeden was replaced by Matt Cassel, who lost four straight. Dallas sits in last place in the NFC East at 2-7.
