A man was arrested after reportedly exchanging gunfire with a police officer in Bethany, Oklahoma, Tuesday morning.

According to police, at about 7 a.m. officers responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle at N.W. 23rd and Rockwell. When they arrived, the suspect, later identified as 46-year-old Christopher Denson, reportedly took off on foot.

At some point, police said Denson fired one shot at the officer who was chasing him. The officer fired a shot back at Denson. Neither Denson nor the officer was hit by the exchange of gunfire.

Denson was eventually taken into custody. Police said they found drug paraphernalia in his vehicle, as well as a bag of crystal-like substance later tested positive for meth in the right pocket of his jeans.

Denson's gun was not in his possession when he was arrested. So officers are searching for the weapon in the area.

Western Oaks Middle School was on placed on a brief lockdown as police searched for a suspect. The Putnam City School Office told News 9 they are sending a message out to parents that the suspect is in custody and the school is no longer on lockdown.

No one was injured.
