The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has released a new report on crime in our state, and there are some surprises when it comes to violent crime.
According to the OSBI, our state's murder rate is the highest it's been in a decade. There were 241 murders last year -- 35 percent higher than 2014.
There was a rise in violent crime last year. But the overall number of violent crimes in Oklahoma is declining.
Violent crimes include murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. Last year, those crimes increased by about 3.7 percent compared to 2014, but the total number has dropped more than 7 percent in 10 years.
The report also non-violent crimes like burglary and larceny dropped for the third year in a row.
