It’s a crime that has left a quiet Moore community in shock.
Someone broke into a home on NE 20 Street Friday night and brutally attacked the homeowner.
Police aren’t releasing many details about the crime or the victim’s name, but several neighbors identify him as Lou Spencer, who they say is in his mid- to late-70s. Online records show the home is owned by a Louis Spencer.
Neighbors say Spencer had recently been having heated arguments with a relative.
"I didn't know (who) the person was that I heard yelling at him and I went out and he told me that it was a family member. That they had some issues," said one neighbor who didn’t want to go on camera.
She said Spencer told her he wanted to get away from there.
"We knew that there had been a few issues and he had been talking about perhaps, you know, moving. Retiring somewhere else," she said.
Police won’t say whether that family member is considered a suspect in the attack.
Neighbors can’t understand why someone would want to hurt Spencer.
"He’s a really nice older gentleman. Very kind. He, himself, lost his wife about a year and a half, two years ago. And he's just a very nice gentle man," said neighbor Connie Peterson. "I really hope that he recovers soon. He ... he doesn't deserve this."
