Former OU Superstar Gerald McCoy Helps Recruit Top Player in 2017 Class

With the 2016 OU football season still 81 days away, most any Sooner news is good news as Oklahoma’s faithful fans thirst for any information regarding their highly touted football team. On Monday, the positive vibes surfaced from an OU legend and current Tampa Bay Buccaneer Gerald McCoy.

The All-Pro defensive lineman is known as one of the best players throughout the entire NFL, and it’s no secret he loves the crimson and cream. McCoy grew up in Oklahoma and was the 2005 Gatorade Player of the Year in high school before becoming a two-time All-American as a Sooner and leading OU to the National Championship game in 2008.

That being said, McCoy holds a lot of clout amongst those in the sport, which in turn leads to positive results whenever he decides to help out on the recruiting front like he did on Monday.  

McCoy took a stab at wooing 2017 defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, who’s currently ranked as the No. 1 player in his class according to Rivals. Wilson released his top 10 schools on Friday, and the list is made up of OU, Ohio State, UCLA, Ole Miss, USC, Texas A&M, Florida State, Alabama, LSU and Texas, but the Sooners could be gaining some traction after Wilson’s Twitter interaction with McCoy.

Wilson definitely appeared to be impressed by McCoy’s tweet, as he responded with one of his own:

Oklahoma currently ranks No. 3 in the 2017 Team Recruiting Rankings according to Rivals, with a total of 14 commitments made up of primarily 4-star caliber players. But landing a commitment from Wilson down the road would surely catapult the Sooners higher up the list.
