Friends, family and News 9 staff members gathered Thursday morning to honor Rodney Bivens, founder of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Bivens is retiring after 36 years of service to Oklahomans in need.
Bivens started the food bank in 1980 in the back of his pickup truck. The first year he distributed 280,000 pounds of food to hungry residents. Now, the food bank distributes that amount every one to two days.
Griffin Communications Chairman and CEO David Griffin and News 9 employees gathered to congratulate Bivens on his retirement and share personal message of gratitude.
