A man spent 15 years in prison for a murder Oklahoma County prosecutors are no longer sure he committed.
Salaam Moore was 17 years old in 1998, when a witness claimed Moore was the trigger man in the gunshot murder of 43-year-old Phillip Gonzales.
Then-37-year-old Doris White was that witness. She was also shot in the leg during the attack.
However, now Salaam Moore, 35, walked out of the Oklahoma County jail at 10:30 p.m. Monday, a free man.
His attorney Michael Arnett said White has recanted her testimony over the course of the past two plus years.
Arnett credits Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater for being willing to listen, in his client’s quest for justice.
“He definitely is looking forward to making changes in his life, from the way he lived his life before, and Mr. Prater and other folks in the D.A.’s office and I are working together to try to come up with some things we can do to help him re-integrate back into society.”
Court documents state White now claims another man committed that murder.
Arnett said White has also admitted to being under the influence of crack cocaine when she testified at Moore’s trial.
