CPR saves lives. It's that simple, and the basics of CPR can also be simple.
So with recent near drownings and other emergency situations, fire crews are making sure we all know the basics.
1,) Check to see if you get any response.
2.) If there’s no breathing or no response, don’t check for a pulse just go straight to compressions.
3,) Put the heel of your hand in the middle of the chest (where ribs come together at the bottom and the ribs come together at top).
4.) Interlock your fingers.
5.) Put your shoulders above your wrists.
6.) Push straight down at least two inches at a rate of 100 a minute.
7.) Be sure to switch off with someone else if possible.
8.) Continue CPR until any signs of life or relieved by EMS.
Your local fire department does offer free classes for CPR training. In Oklahoma City, classes are every first and third Saturday of each month. Just call (405)-297-1312 and the department will set you up with the nearest station.
