Six people were taken into custody Monday following a high-speed chase in Pottawatomie County.

Authorities say shots were fired at the suspect during the pursuit that eventually ended along State Highway 177, south of Asher.

Tecumseh police initiated the pursuit after receiving a tip on a stolen pickup.

The vehicle's GPS system pinged at an apartment complex on Broadway near SH 177.

Assistant Chief J.R. Kidney said he responded to the call and tried to stop the driver near Walnut and 4th Street. The driver sped through neighborhoods before jumping on the highway..

"It was very dangerous for the public who was out on the street," Kidney explained. "They were at times running on a rim, almost losing control, driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic."

Moments later, Tecumseh officers and Pottawatomie County sheriff's deputies were in pursuit.

At some point, investigators said a Tecumseh officer and a deputy fired shots at the suspects.

"Right now, we don't know if the suspect exchanged gunfire," said Kidney.

The suspect eventually crashed into a ditch and ran into a nearby wooded area.

Four were arrested and two are considered witnesses. The driver, Zachary Byrd, 20, was arrested for aggravated eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, and assault with a dangerous weapon. Passenger Brittany Davis, 18, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. Passenger Clayton Harris, 23, was arrested for assesor to eluding. The fourth person arrested is a juvenile.

Authorities said he sustained injuries during the ordeal but it's unclear if he was hit by the gunfire.

At last check, he is in a local hospital. His name has not been released.

None of the law enforcement officers involved in the incident were hurt.

Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth says this is the third pursuit in the last week.

"It is not a good idea to come to Pottawatomie County and do this because you are going to get caught," Booth said.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting related to the chase.
