Man Charged In Sexual Assault Of 1-Year-Old Child

A Missouri man has been charged in connection with a reported sexual assault of a 1-year-old girl, Jackson County authorities said.

Sean Fye, 21, faces a charge of sodomy in the first degree. 

According to court records filed Thursday, staff at Children's Mercy Hospital reported Tuesday that a 1-year-old child had trauma consistent with sexual assault. A witness told Independence Police Department detectives that the child's mother had noticed bleeding and called for medial help.

At the hospital, the mother's boyfriend stated that while changing the victim's diaper he may have caused the injury, officers said. The defendant told detectives he inserted his fingers out of curiosity and became aroused. 

Fye is being held on a bond of $100,000.
