A metro mother arrested for child neglect is now out of jail on a pretrial release bond. The child’s father is still behind bars.
Oklahoma City Police released body camera footage Tuesday of the response to their SW OKC home just after midnight Sunday.
In the report, officers said everyone was so drunk it was difficult to understand what they were saying.
Police said 36-year-old Justin Autaubo had just been in a fist fight with his brother. And 36-year-old Teresa Douglas was yelling at them both.
Officers asked Douglas if anyone was inside the home. Douglas said her 2-year-old daughter was inside.
“There’s [sic] cockroaches crawling all over the bed,” an officer could be heard saying in the footage.
“You think this is appropriate for a child to be living in?” An officer could be heard asking. “There’s [sic] spiders. There’s literally a black widow living in the corner of her room.”
Police said the toilet was full and there was no running water or working air conditioner in the home.
Officers contacted DHS and the child was placed with a family member.
Autaubo and Douglas were arrested for child neglect.
“To say that we’re horrible parents – that’s a bunch of bull,” Douglas said on the phone Tuesday.
Douglas's emotions were still fresh over the phone, hours after her release from jail.
She said the family was struggling to make ends meet.
“A lot of people are just all high and mighty and need to get off their high horse,” she added.
Officers also found a pet inside the home. At first, they thought it was dead. OKC Animal Welfare vet staff is now treating the lethargic, thin, dehydrated dog.
And an animal cruelty investigation is underway.
