Oklahoma Council Developing Plan To Address Homelessness

A state council that studies homelessness in Oklahoma is seeking the public's input on a new five-year plan.

The Governor's Interagency Council on Homelessness survey asks what obstacles prevent state and local officials from making progress.

Greg Shinn, the council's vice chairman, says the plan would replace an earlier plan that called for expanding resources available to homeless people, improving transportation services and expanding the amount of affordable housing for very low-income residents.

The Oklahoman reports the new plan will be designed to bring the state in line with federal priorities, including ending homelessness among veterans, families with children and unaccompanied children.

Oklahoma City's transit officials are weighing a separate plan to rework bus routes to help poor and homeless people better access services.
