The House and Senate have convened for the 116th Congress with the most the most diverse class of lawmakers in history, and Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi was selected as the newest Speaker of the House.
Pelosi is pledging broadly to make Congress work for all Americans, but her party is also ready to challenge President Donald Trump with investigations that threaten the White House agenda.
Oklahoma's only representative to vote for Pelosi is freshman congresswoman Kendra Horn. She had previously not committed to supporting Pelosi.
Reps. Tom Cole, Markwayne Mullin, Frank Lucas and Kevin Hern all voted for Republican Kevin McCarthy. Hern is also a freshman congressman.
This Congress is also the first new Congress to convene during a partial government shutdown, now in its 13th day over Trump's demands for money for a southern border wall.
