A foul-mouthed exchange between a hotheaded fan and the Thunder's Russell Westbrook caused an uproar during Monday night's game against the Utah Jazz.

Now teammates are jumping to Westbrook’s defense after he was caught on camera losing his cool.

Westbrook had no shortage of four-letter words for a fan and his wife in the crowd, but he says a cell phone video of the incident only captures part of the story.

Among other things in the video, Westbrook can be heard shouting, “I promise you, I promise. I’ll expletive* you up, you and your wife.”

The video has racked up more than 2 million views on Jazz Digital Sports reporter Eric Woodyard's twitter account, and even more people are talking about it.

Westbrook met with a group of reporters following the game where he addressed the video and his words, at no point issuing an apology, but instead calling for more protection for players. He said what's more important than what you see in the video, is what you don't see or hear from the fan and his wife.

According to Westbrook, both Jazz fan Shane Keisel and his wife told him to, "Get on your knees like you used to," a comment he called both racial and disrespectful.

Westbrook is calling for bigger consequences for unruly fans and more protection for players.

"There needs to be some consequences for those type of people who come to the game just to say and do whatever they want to say, and I don’t think it’s fair not just to the players, not just to me," Westbrook said. “If I had to do the it all over again, I would say the same exact thing.”

Teammate Raymond Felton Jr. said he heard the same comments coming from Jazz fan Shane Keisel and that this incident is not the first time Westbrook and other players have been verbally abused by fans.
