Oklahoma City Public Schools will roll out the continuous learning plan on Monday.

In a special board meeting Friday, Superintendent Dr. Sean McDaniel expressed his willingness to adapt and evolve the program as needed.

Each week, curriculum will be uploaded on the OKCPS website or given out as a packet at the district meal sites.

Teachers will coordinate with their classes on when and where they’ll provide instruction.

In addition, each teacher will have office hours where students can reach out via phone or video for help.

“Even though we’re not grading new material, they do want to provide feedback to our kids as there submitting responses to prompts for example. So, teachers are not just putting in an hour a day,” McDaniel said.

Grades for the end of the third quarter, up to about March 12, will count as semester grades. Any assignments with scores lower than 50 will be rounded up to 50.

“The 50 percent is the lowest grade any student will get in our secondary schools for the third quarter,” McDaniel said.

Special education and English second language resources are available on the OKCPS website.

Graduation ceremonies will be held virtually, although McDaniel said he’s hoping to hold in person ceremonies later this summer, should CDC guidelines allow it.

Meanwhile the meal services continue to grow in popularity, with an estimated 200,000 meals served so far.

McDaniel said he’s aware some families have had problems getting to the meal sites.

The superintendent said the board is working on a solution so those same families can receive meals and curriculum packets.

Anyone with questions is encouraged to call the district hotline at 58-STUDY.
