Norman Company Offers New Coronavirus (COVID-19) Test

Another test in the fight against COVID-19 is coming and it’s being developed in the metro.

It would show if you've already been exposed to the virus.

Medical diagnostic manufacturer IMMY in Norman is preparing to roll out an antibody blood test.

“What the antibodies show is that you have been exposed and hopefully you can be protected from the virus. That’s the way vaccine’s work,” said IMMY CEO Dr. Sean Bauman.

Bauman said in the war on COVID-19, their test can show which people are safest on the front lines or when its safe for a once infected person to return to work.

“Help really get a handle on where the disease is and how big,” added Dr. Bauman.

IMMY is hoping for blood donations of people once infected by COVID-19 to better perfect their antibody test.

The company still hopes to roll out the test next week.

Meanwhile, IMMY will continue to process the swab COVID-19 tests.

With additional equipment, IMMY hopes to have the capabilities to process thousands each day next week.
