Police Identify 17-Year-Old Shot And Killed By His Brother
McLOUD, Oklahoma - Police and the Pottawatomie District Attorney’s task force are searching for evidence following a heartbreaking shooting in McLoud.
Around 6:30 a.m. officers say 17-year-old “Raydon French” or “Rayden French” was shot and killed by his 19-year-old brother. Police say they were initially called to the home hours before the gunfire. The first 911 call was in reference to a disturbance at the family’s home on Heritage Park.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
“That’s something we’re still looking out through the interviews, find out what the background was,” says McLoud Police Chief Tom Pringle.
The 19-year old and the mother of the two boys were both taken in to be interviewed by investigators.
Officers say the mother was a witness to the shooting.
This afternoon, both of the family members were released and neither were arrested.
It’s still an emotional time for many in McLoud.
“One of my officers is a school resource officer and he knows this household, and knows the kids. And yes, everybody knows everybody around here. It is a shame that his mother has to deal with the death of losing her youngest. It is tough,” says Chief Pringle.
He continued by saying the 17-year-old gunshot victim had a deep history with the police department. He’d been arrested before.
“He does have a juvenile offender record with us,” Chief Pringle says. Reporter: “Anything violent?” “Some violent yes, and some other stuff as well. But yes, there was some violence in his history,” says Chief Pringle.
The investigation is ongoing.
Officers say the will not release the 19-year-old's name or 911 calls related to the case until the DA has had a chance to review them.
