Complete strangers show an Oklahoma City storm victim love and support during a dark time.

The 82-year-old woman's home and car were damaged in strong winds on May 6 and she had no money for the cleanup or repairs.

Bessie Baker got very sick recently and had to drop her home insurance to pay for medical bills.

“It makes you feel good that somebody thought of you that don't know you, that come to your house, a stranger's house, and help them,” Baker said. “Oklahoma is like that though.”

News 9 first met Baker last Wednesday when she was trying to figure out the next step after a huge tree fell onto her home and car during severe weather.

The mess led to sleepless nights because she had no money for repairs, but she stayed hopeful.

“Whenever it rains, there is always sunshine behind it,” she said.

Those rays of sunshine came first from a lawn company called Mickey's Lawn Care of Moore. Owner Mel Mickey called News 9 wanting to help Bessie for free. His crew had the tree taken care of the next day.

“I said, 'I don't have any money. I don't have any insurance.' And he said, 'Ma'am, I haven't asked you for anything,'” Baker told News 9.

Then more sunshine came from a church group that dropped by the house and gave Baker $300.

“Now that surprised me,” Baker exclaimed. “People help you in a lot of different ways and money is hard to come by now,” she explained.

The church group wanted to remain anonymous, but encouraged others to help neighbors in need.

“Just remember that God loves us and he will send a guardian angel to you, just have faith,” Baker said.

Baker just needs to get her car windshield fixed now and said the money from the church group will help with that.
