Sapulpa Police arrested a man early Tuesday morning after they say he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and refused to come out, prompting an hours-long standoff.

Officers responded to the Garden Park Apartments near Route 66 and Mounds Street around 11 p.m. Monday after the woman who lives there escaped and ran for help.

Police say the man, identified as George Alexander III, remained inside. Officers fired pepper balls and gas into the unit to get him to come out, but he did not leave.

Authorities eventually took him into custody around 3 a.m. Tuesday. He was treated for K-9 bites.

No one else was injured during the incident.

Police have not yet released the suspect’s name.
