A virtual reality headset designed specifically for senior living communities and healthcare organizations is helping strengthen the minds of residents.

Users can revisit locations from their past, reconnect with family members, and check off bucket list items such as climbing the Rocky Mountains and surfing.

Doctor Cody Diehl is the Director of Lifestyle and Wellness at Montereau Retirement Community in Tulsa.

Diehl said they are the first retirement community of its size to introduce the virtual and physical reality to independent and assistant living residents.

Diehl has experience working with people who have experienced memory loss, specifically Alzheimer’s and dementia patients.

The virtual reality headset allows Diehl to bring a resident back to a childhood home, favorite vacation destinations, and experience new memories.

“So if they’re not able to leave the community, I can at least take them to vacation one more time or take them out somewhere to give them the opportunity to experience the world without stepping foot out of Montereau," Dr. Diehl said.

The men and women at the Montereau Retirement Community will be able to use the virtual reality headset in January.
