A Sand Springs family wants to pay it forward after the community stepped in to help them.

They are searching for a colorectal cancer patient to raise money for.

When Ashlee and Ray Hall were facing a tough time, they let others help.

"I just had this thought that I could either...we go through this by ourselves, or I start to share my story and raise awareness," she said.

Ashlee was diagnosed a little over a year ago with stage 3 colorectal cancer.

She says it's the help and kindness of others that got her family through the difficult time.

"People that I still haven't met, that we're ready and willing to help us, between reaching out, getting checks in the mail, people saying hey we want to help you in some way," she said.

The couple held a mountain bike race and benefit last March, with the proceeds going to Ashlee's treatment.

They say it was a huge success.

"It just took off. A crew from Omaha, Nebraska even found out about it somehow; they brought 15 racers and are like, we're coming back next year," Ray said.

They plan to do it again next March, but instead of raising money for Ashlee's treatment, they want to help someone else.

Ray says as a Sand Springs firefighter for the past 18 years, they want to help someone in a community that means so much to them.

"Hopefully we can find somebody in Sand Springs that is in need of some help, and it really doesn't matter what stage they're at, if they are in chemo or preparing for their surgery, truthfully," he said.

Ashlee says she wants to raise awareness and educate people on colorectal cancer and for people who are fighting the disease to know the Halls are there for them.

"My goal with that was to really bring people hope that you can go through this, you can get through and still live your life," Ashlee said.

If you know someone in the Sand Springs area with colorectal cancer, you can email rrhalljr@gmail.com. You can also visit the 12hrs of Twisted Oaks Facebook event page for more information on the event.
