For military veterans, the weight of trauma is at an all-time high. But now, here in Oklahoma City, there’s a new place to get some help.

“Steve Cohen had this vision that he wanted to make sure that military members, their families, and veterans had a place to go when they asked for help,” said President and CEO of The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinics, Anthony Hassan.

In 2016 the first of twenty-four Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinics was opened to address the growing problem among veterans. “Because if you don’t get help now, your problem is going to continue to get worse, and then bad things happen,” said Hassan.

Until now Oklahoma had only had the clinic located in Lawton. “We launched that clinic back in twenty-twenty and since then we have seen over one thousand people in that clinic,” said Amista Chambers, Clinic Director for Oklahoma.

Today was the grand opening of the Oklahoma City location on Southwest 104th Street. “We have this ability to see people at no cost, low cost, no barriers to care, so if you need help and you’re in the military the Cohen clinics in Oklahoma City and Lawton are here for you,” said Hassan.

Addressing the concerns almost immediately. “Here at the Cohen clinic seventy percent of our patients are going to be seen within two weeks from the time they ask for help, that’s remarkable,” said Hassan.

To assist in getting that help, the rooms are intentionally designed to be peaceful, for adults as well as children. “We see family therapy, we actually see the entire family, this room we are in currently, you know that’s why it is a big room, it has the capability and the capacity to hold a big family,” said Chambers.

For the workers, it’s fulfilling to be able to help those who have served this great country. “It’s the best job I’ve ever had in my life. Every day you come to work knowing you’re saving lives, saving families, and saving futures,” said Hassan.

Offering the power of hope to those struggling with mental illness “If you need help raise your hand and come to Cohen clinic, we’ll take care of you,” said Hassan.

The clinic is already scheduling appointments, they can be reached by phone at (405)635-3888 or by visiting their website at www.cvnokc@red-rock.com
