A metro man is recovering at a hospital after a medical emergency over the weekend. His family said their brother would have died --- if it weren’t for a random act of kindness.

The afternoon traffic rush features people making their way home. Right off the Kilpatrick Turnpike along Northwest 39th Street -- there is a place where the Weatherton family’s life was at a crossroads. “Everyone should tell people that they love them because tomorrow is promised to no one,” said Ranessa Weatherton, Randez Weatherton’s sister. Their brother Randez drove through an intersection near a Yukon Oncue gas station on Sunday night. Weatherton said Randez had a medical emergency. “It can change in a matter of seconds,” she said. “My brother had passed out at the wheel. He happened to have a split aorta. He had an aneurysm that he didn’t know about.”

This is a condition Ranessa understands. “I myself also suffer from an aneurysm, but I know about my condition,” Weatherton said.

The family returned to the place where life could have stopped. “He would’ve died,” Weatherton said. However, Randez is alive and recovering at the hospital and he’s talking.  “He’s doing great,” said Vickie Weatherton, Randez’s mom. Weatherton saw her son at the hospital on Wednesday and she said he told her he loves her.  “We was raised to love and cherish our family,” Renessa Weatherton said.

They can still share memories together because a pair of good Samaritans called 911. “We just wanna tell those people thank you,” Marquita Weatherton said. Grateful is an understatement. Weatherton said her brother’s son Sidney was in the back seat. “Those two people really did save him and his son,” Weatherton said.

Everything they could have hoped for – but they have one wish -- to meet the people who helped save their brother’s life. “I’m thankful. I’m really thankful that they took the time to stop to help him,” Renessa Weatherton said.

Randez needs to recover, but he’s in good hands. A random act of kindness allows this son, father, and brother to make his way back home.
