On weekends here at Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Lexington, racecar drivers compete from all over the country. But there is one attraction bigger than the races.

He’s the racetrack announcer known as country Kyle, “It’s a passion that I have, I love announcing, I love racing,” said Kyle Lytle.

Aside from racing Lytle is also extremely passionate about his hair, “Me and my buddy were at work one day and we just decided we were going to grow mullets, and the clippers hit the side of my head and there was no going back from there,” said Lytle.

That is in June of 2020, and he’s still going, even with some challenges.

“My girlfriend’s nephew ended up shooting me in the back of the head with a roman candle by accident, and it lit on fire, it was a bad deal. But we got it out and we’re good,” said Lytle.

Then to his surprise, he found the contest, “I was just scrolling through Facebook and saw it, and saw it was for a good cause and I just decided to go for it,” said Lytle.

A nationwide contest for the best mullet, raising money for a great cause, “Everybody’s donations that they have gotten are going to the Jared Allans’s homes for wounded warriors, but they’ve already raised two hundred and eight thousand dollars, and it’s going to keep on going until the contest ends,” said Lytle.

After surviving the first three rounds, Country Kyle has a really good chance of winning it all, “So, it started at 250, and went down to the top seventy-five, and now we are in the top twenty-five, so they’ll take the top three of that and see who wins,” said Lytle.

Anyone can vote for free, once a day, and to raise money there is a donation button available, “I’m from Oklahoma, part of the motorsport’s community, and I’ve got a pretty sweet mullet if I do say so myself,” said Lytle.
