Man Shot, Accused Of Home Invasion, Domestic Violence In Midwest City

A woman's estranged husband was shot in the chest Wednesday after he kicked the door down to her boyfriend's home, according to Midwest City Police. The shooting triggered a large police presence, something residents said had become all too common.

"We're all having to get security lights and security cameras," said Gabrielle, a concerned neighbor.

Several neighbors like Gabrielle blame neighborhood crime on a dilapidated elementary school that closed about a year ago.

"Ever since they shut down Steed Elementary, if you go down there at night, it's like pitch black," said Gabrielle.

However, police said Wednesday's shooting was domestic-related. According to investigators, Mauricio Delarosa went to his wife's boyfriend's home, kicked open the front door, and found his wife and her boyfriend inside.

A court filing shows the homeowner told police Delarosa began shouting at him in Spanish, and then charged him. He said he shut the door to his bedroom, and when it was flung open he, "retrieved his pistol from the dresser and fired a single round, striking Delarosa in the chest."

"I went ahead and walked down there because I saw it was all taped off," said Gabrielle. 

Police said Delarosa ran and left behind a trail of blood droplets and smear on a vehicle parked in the driveway. He collapsed in a neighbor's lawn. Neighbors said they were relieved no one else was hurt.

"I’m so glad Oklahoma is an open carry state because I agree with that 100 percent. I’m glad they were able to protect themselves and their family," said Gabrielle.

Police said Delarosa suffered non-life threatening injuries. He had called his estranged wife more than 170 times on Wednesday, police said.

Investigators said Delarosa had an active warrant based out of Cleveland County for domestic violence.
