After a Covid hiatus, Poetry and Chill’s open mic night is back and better than ever.

“It’s not just an event, it’s an experience for the city, the world, the culture to experience,” said Poetry and Chill founder Gregory the Second.

He started the Poetry and Chill open mic nights five years ago.

“I was just sitting at home one day and being cliché and like Netflix and chill, I said poetry and chill,” said Gregory II.

He grew up in Oklahoma City, but after spending time in Los Angeles, he realized there really wasn’t a platform for local talent to perform in front of a live audience.

“Open mic nights are a place for all artists to have a platform for them to perform, we want to make them feel like they’re in Hollywood,” said Gregory II.

Complete with a professional photographer and videographer, and band, and of course, a large crowd cheering on the performers.

“You can be a comedian, you can be a rapper, a singer, a dancer, any artistic talent, you are able to bless the stage at Poetry and Chill,” said Gregory II.

Poetry and Chill is held every other Friday at Queen Lounge in north Oklahoma City, from 8:30-11:30 p.m.

“I want people to feel safe to go out on a Friday night and enjoy their time going out. We want people to feel happy, feel good, this all-good positive energy, when you come to poetry and chill, you leave a better person,” said Gregory II.

Admission is free and participation is free, but come early to get your name on the list to perform.

“So, if you are an artist and you do have a talent and you want to showcase that [...] this is the place to be,” said Gregory II.
