Millwood Public Schools welcomed a new early childhood program to campus, and with it, a place to grow.

“I think schools done well, build communities,” Millwood Public Schools superintendent Cecilia Robinson-Woods said.

The new early childhood program serves children from several weeks of age to age three and was created in partnership with Sunbeam Family Services.

“Our hope is that they will come and partake of the wonderful services with Sunbeam from birth to three, and then transition over and become a Millwood falcon. In fact, these are our baby falcons,” said Robinson-Woods.

The program was given a five-star ranking by the Department of Human Services.

“That is the beauty of this partnership with Sunbeam, it’s the quality of care that the families will receive, they also get quality wrap around services with this program,” Sunbeam Family Services northeast community director Comesha Woods said.

The program features collaboration with parents and the community, and Early Education Center school director Keisha King says they focus on the basic needs of the children.

“They gain a lot of skills by painting, which is fun for the children," King said. "They don’t realize they’re manipulating their fine motors or their large motors. They get a sense of community because they may share a little painting with a friend or something, or with a staff member. Sometimes, our families kind of hang out and do some of those things with them."

This is the first campus in Oklahoma to offer birth to college level education.

“Potentially they could grow up on campus,” Sunbeam Early Childhood Services senior program director Anthony Stafford said.
