Shading AC Units May Not Be Helpful, Could Cause Harm

A trend spreading across social media has some people trying to beat the heat by putting a shade over their AC units.

An AC repair person says while it sounds like a good idea it can actually cause harm to the unit.

Gary Mahan says a natural shade is best because a shade like this umbrella is far too low to really provide any help.

"I've seen people putting tents and shade covers over the top of their ACs and all it does is cause it to recirculate hot air into the condenser."
