Christmas is a time of joy and sharing, but in Del City, there has been a fierce competition for Christmas decorations between the fire department, police department and city hall.

It’s Christmas time. A time of joy, love, and caring. But in Del City, it’s turned into a time of fierce competition

Last month Del City mayor Floyd Eason had the crazy idea

“I tried to promote a little bit of competition, initially, between the police department and fire department,” said Mayor Eason.

But as word spread about the competition, City Hall and the Del City community center wanted in on the action.

“All four entities have overcome with the Christmas spirit,” said Del City vice mayor Pam Finch.

For the fire and police departments, this probably wouldn’t be classified as the Christmas spirit.

“Well, I think definitely we have the best decorations. But I think we’ve won no matter what because they actually participated this year, that was our goal,” said Deputy Chief Z. Williams with the Del City Fire Department.

The police department is confident they will win the competition.

“Good effort, but better luck next year,” said Capt. Brad Cowden, with the Del City Police department.

The competition ramped up on social media when the fire department created a Del City police officer in a window on the upper floor of the fire department needing to be rescued.

“He really wanted to be a fireman that’s why we have him up there asking for help. Because he’s always wanted to be a fireman, he’s always asking to ride in our trucks here, but he hasn’t made the cut yet,” said Williams.

“If that’s the best they can do, I guess. They have all day sitting in their recliners and playing games and taking naps and having sleep overs,” said Cowden.

And while the police and fire departments go back and forth, vice mayor Finch has one message for them

“They don’t have a chance. Vote city hall,” said Finch

“The prize for the winner?

“We’ve got this beautiful cup that we are going to reward to the number one decorated building in Del City,” said Mayor Eason.

The competition has ended and to no surprise the police department won by a landslide, but if you ask the others city offices, the police department clearly cheated.
