Murder Suspect Arrested After Short Standoff In NE OKC

A Wednesday afternoon standoff in northeast Oklahoma City ended with a murder suspect in custody.

Dejuan Callahan now faces a murder complaint.

Squad cars lined NE 36th Street to surround a home with murder suspect inside.

"The tactical unit came out once we understood that we had a homicide suspect holed up in the house, refusing to come out," Oklahoma City police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.

Police said Callahan shot Vincent Wright in late May after a fight at a car wash on Meridian Avenue.

"At the time, it was believed to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was shot in the lower leg," said Knight.

Wright, who was shot in the knee, needed several surgeries during his recovery.

"[He] developed complications and ultimately died about a month later as a result of being shot," Knight said.

His death was in June, but it wasn't until the police department turned to the public last month that they got any leads on the case. They released security footage from the car wash.

"Showing the shooting giving people a look at the suspect ultimately we were able to identify him by putting that video out," said Knight.

About a week and a half after it was released, police said they got an anonymous tip that the man in the footage was Callahan.

Callahan was also recently arrested on an unrelated weapons violation.

Police were then able to match that gun to a bullet casing found at the shooting scene in May. The car listed on his arrest report, also matched the one police say is seen in the security footage.

Police were serving Callahan's arrest warrant on Wednesday, that led to the short standoff before he surrendered.

Callahan was arrested on a first-degree murder complaint.
