OCCHD To Reveal New Drive-Thru Vaccination Center

The Oklahoma City-County Health Department is set to reveal its new drive-thru vaccination center.

The center has been in the works for a while after it was approved by the department's board of health back in December 2020.

The center is a partnership between OCCHD and Passport Health. OCCHD officials said this center has been something they have needed for some time now. This will allow them to be able to vaccinate and test in a quick and easy fashion.

"Our emergency response and preparedness team has been working and preparing for pandemics such as this, not really expecting this 100-year pandemic for years and years,” said Dr. Patrick McGough, OCCHD CEO. “So, we have always been working towards these types of things."

McGough hopes this new center makes it more accessible for someone to get a vaccine.

"Our intent with this is to reach the masses very quickly, effectively and efficiently, and that is the importance of a drive-thru,” said McGough.

"From start to finish it would be about 20 to 25 minutes,” said Patti Debose, Passport Health’s on-site nurse.

Debose said people will need to fill out paperwork, and bring an insurance card if they have insurance.

Once that is completed, a nurse will draw up whatever vaccine you're getting and come right up to your car window to administer it.

"In this location in particular, we can have nine different cars drive in at the same time,” said McGough. “Those folks in the cars be vaccinated then drive out."

If you do receive the COVID-19 vaccine or the booster, you will have to wait 15 minutes before you will be able to leave.

"We are protected from the weather and it makes it easily accessible whatever the seasons are and weather conditions are,” said Dr. McGough.
