Man At Center Of SCOTUS Tribal Jurisdiction Ruling Convicted Of Murder In Federal Court

A federal jury convicted Patrick Murphy of murder, after his original conviction was thrown out due to the ruling on tribal jurisdiction.

The man at the center of a Supreme Court ruling on tribal jurisdiction and sovereignty has been found guilty of murder in federal court.

Patrick Murphy was convicted in 2000 of murdering his girlfriend’s former lover and sentenced to death. The case was dismissed last year due to the Supreme Court ruling on tribal sovereignty as Murphy is a member of the Muscogee Nation.
