Gusty south winds return through Wednesday with a few clouds as temperature climb near seasonal averages.

Low-level moisture begins its journey northward and will be felt more so Thursday with highs reaching the mid-90s and heat index values soaring over 105°. Another front nears the area Friday night and brings additional storm chances into the region through the weekend with temps dropping into the 80s.

Wednesday is a transition day from the mild and pleasant morning weather into the muggy weather later which will continue for the rest of the week. We’re more than likely dealing with heat advisories Thursday and Friday as heat index values reach 105° or slightly higher. The next front does appear slightly different regarding exact timing for this weekend but does not change the overall forecast too much: showers and storms will arrive late Friday night into Saturday and will stick around occasionally through the day. Additional storms are possible Sunday with lessor chances lingering Monday.

The main threat with this system will be heavy rainfall and flooding potential, but as the initial round of storms moves into the area, some strong to severe will be possible as shear and instability are briefly maximized. The upper air flow this weekend will be mostly parallel to the boundary. This means the front will not move much and will be a focus for ample convection during this period. Abundant low-level moisture pooling near the front and extending into the midlevel will support tropical-like downpours with storms that could be slow movers Saturday.

Some data does not totally bring the front southward until Sunday and this means we’ll need to keep healthy mentions for storms also for the Sunday period. Most data support the boundary moving into southern OK early next week, but the main upper trough is expected to remain across the central U.S. while a ridge is positioned across the west. This pattern could bring additional storm chances for the middle of next week, yet we only carry low mentions for now.

Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
