Broken Arrow’s teachers were out of the classroom Thursday so they could get the vaccine.

Classes were out Thursday, but with the goal of having students in class more than they have been. All Broken Arrow’s teachers should have at least the first dose by the end of the day Friday.

Broken Arrow Public Schools vaccinated approximately 700 teachers and staff members Thursday, the first day of a clinic to deliver first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. The clinic continues Friday.

The shots were delivered on stage at the district Performing Arts Center.

Teachers and staff in earlier groups, those over 65 or working in school healthcare, have already been vaccinated.

Counselor Kara Green got her first dose today, moving forward a plan by the district to get schools open more frequently, with more students in classrooms.

“You have got to have the connection between teachers and student you only get face to face, in a classroom, so they're very excited to get that back in their lives” said Adam Foreman, the head of Public Relations for the district. “We’re hoping this will eliminate quarantines and disruptions, by having teachers vaccinated and healthy, less numbers, less positives, because that's why you have to shut down a school is when you don't have enough teachers, and we hope this will cut that down drastically.”
