Tinker Air Force Base's main gate will close for construction for one year, starting Thursday night.

This is the gate right off Interstate 40 and Air Depot Road. Some of the traffic that traditionally moves through this gate will now be pushed towards the east into Eaker Gate at Town Center Drive.

For the next year, the Eaker Gate will operate for 24 hours a day to help with that large traffic flow.

However, another problem is that the Eaker gate does not have north /south access.

The base is also advising people to go through both the Vance and Hruskocy gates as an alternative to help alleviate traffic congestion.

"Understanding that a single turn around, a single person without identification can stop traffic for a minute. One minute of stopped traffic can build up on the exit ramps," said Colonel Paul Filcek.

Tinker Air Force Base is working with other local authorities to make sure everything goes smoothly.
