Starting Dec. 1, the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden will begin its new winter schedule.

The zoo will be closed to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The zoo will continue to be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Monday.

The decision to close two days a week is a first in the zoo's history.

Because the zoo closed for 51 days due to the emergence of COVID-19, the zoo's operational budget suffered a significant financial impact.

The zoo will be able to reduce expenses with the closure of the least attended days in the winter season, a zoo official said.

Advance tickets are required for all guests and ZOOfriends members and can be purchased at http://www.okczoo.org/tickets
