State Supreme Court Rules Notarization Not Needed For Absentee Ballots

The Oklahoma Supreme Court has ruled that absentee ballots do not need to be notarized in an order issued Monday.

The League of Women Voters of Oklahoma filed against the Oklahoma State Election Commission calling into the question circumstances produced by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

State Rep. Jason Dunnington, (D-Oklahoma City) released the following statement Monday in support of the ruling:

“I’m happy to see the Oklahoma Supreme Court uphold what we already knew: Oklahoma doesn’t need to be one of only three states requiring notarized ballots.

“This decision will make voting by mail more accessible and protect our hard-working poll workers from unnecessary exposure. Most importantly, it will make sure Oklahomans don’t have to choose between their health and their democracy on June 30.”

The ruling applies to the upcoming elections.
