(San Francisco-AP) -- An alleged computer hacker appeared in a California courtroom today after being indicted on charges of breaking into government computer systems, including ones at Tinker Air Force Base.

Twenty-seven-year-old Max Ray Butler of Berkeley was ordered held on $100,000 bail during the hearing in San Jose. He surrendered yesterday, five days after he was indicted on 15 counts.

The U-S Justice Department says the investigation of Butler took 22 months.
