Owasso Police had an area around Centennial Park closed Monday afternoon as they responded to a person believed to be endangered. The situation was resolved, and the person was said to be safe.
The park itself was closed as was 86th Street North between 145th East Avenue and 161st East Avenue. They have since been reopened.
Hodson Elementary and the 8th Grade Center were placed on external lockdown as police respond to the situation, OPD said. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol assisted in the search.
Deputy Chief of Police Jason B. Woodruff issued the following statement:
Today at 12:37 p.m., OPD received information about a possible suicidal subject in the area of Centennial Park at 15300 E. 86 St. N. Officers from the Owasso Police Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to the area in an effort to locate the person.
As a precaution, area schools were placed on external lockdown, but there was never a direct threat to any of the schools or any students.
Officers canvassed the wooded areas around the park and located the subject on foot in the area at approximately 2:40 p.m. The subject was taken into custody without incident, and the school lockdowns have been lifted.
