Weleetka killings investigation continues

WELEETKA, Okla. -- A dog and its handler searched the area in Weleetka Wednesday where two girls were killed two weeks ago, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown said.

Shirley, a search dog for the Bureau for Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, is breathing new life into a two-week-old investigation.

"Shirley is a bomb dog and has the ability to detect explosives, explosives residue," handler Tracey Breeden said.

Shirley's expertise is in high demand.

"She's assigned to the National Response Team for the ATF, so we go all over the place," Breeden said.

Breeden is a Tulsa County Sheriff's Deputy and member of the ATF task force volunteered Shirley's services.

"This was a horrific crime that was committed," Breeden said. "We will do everything we can to help the OSBI with their investigation." 

The search took place Wednesday morning about 9 a.m. in an effort to seek any new information into the killings.

While the dog did not find anything of specific connection, Brown called the search successful.

On Tuesday, authorities responded to a burglary call where the suspect matched the description of the person-of-interest in the Weeletka investigation.

After an extensive man hut, authorities said the two cases were not related.
