Some Confusion For Drivers On New Westbound I-40 In OKC

The opening of the westbound lanes of the new I-40 Crosstown has brought some confusion for drivers.

For the last 50 years, drivers have been used to getting on and off the Crosstown at Robinson Avenue. Now, Robinson will only be an off-ramp.

To enter downtown from westbound I-40, you will have to take Robinson or Western Avenues. Eastbound drivers need to exit Western Avenue or Shields/E.K. Gaylord Boulevard.

When leaving downtown, drivers will need to enter I-40 eastbound or westbound by using Shields Boulevard or Western Avenue. Changes that are still an adjustment for some drivers.

But the old 40 won't be old for long. The next phase of the project includes deconstructing the old I-40 lanes and building a new roadway the city is calling the "Boulevard."

Keep in mind, construction on the old I-40 will be ongoing for another 18 months to two years.
