One Injured, Three Mobile Homes Damaged As Grassfires Erupt In Oklahoma

At least one person has been injured, three mobile homes have been damaged and 50 homes have been evacuated as grass fires burn in Payne County in north-central Oklahoma.

There are more than 200 firefighters, a dozen agencies and countless private citizens working to battle the blaze.

Stillwater Fire Marshall Trent Hawkins says a sheriff's deputy was transported from the scene of the blaze east of Stillwater Monday afternoon, but he didn't have any details about the injury. Hawkins says the mobile homes that burned were vacant.

He says an Oklahoma National Guard helicopter dumped water on the fires in wooded areas inaccessible to firefighters. The American Red Cross opened an evacuation center at the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater.

News 9 has a crew at a mobile home park off Wooten Road about 5-6 miles east of Stillwater off Highway 51. We are told more than 350 bales of hay were burned. Firefighters will work throughout the night to put out hot spots. Good news is fire has been contained.

The city of Stillwater is reporting several power outages as well. Officials are not sure if the outages are due to the fire or not. Power crews are headed out to try and restore power to residents.

Another fire that erupted Monday near Calumet was contained. County Commissioner Jack Stewart says about 200 acres burned in the blaze, and an old barn may have been damaged.

Cain says a Kiowa County fire that began last week remained active. It has charred more than 28,000 acres.

Cain says other fires continued in Kiowa, Seminole and Ottawa counties. She says there were no requests Monday for aerial water drops from Oklahoma National Guard aircraft.
