I caught myself outside today and not burning up, then I realized summer was gone! Packed its bags and headed out. As a student I was obviously not that excited about this. It means back to books, studying, and trying to find a parking spot on the OU campus (a nightmare). To cheer myself up I started thinking about the fun things I did this summer.

I took summer classes which didn't leave too much time for lazy summer days, but my family and I jumped at every opportunity for summer fun. As soon as school ended in May we loaded up and went to Beaver Lake in Arkansas. My family loves to fish, especially for stripers and that lake is known for their big stripers. We got to see the sunrise and sunset on the lake every day it was absolutely gorgeous. I definitely recommend making the trip up there. We fished and fished, but never found the big ones we had heard about.

After summer school started our trips had to fit on the weekends, and the first trip was to Nashville. We try to go at least once a year. We love music, especially country music! So where is better to go than Nashville? We spent most of our time just going around listening to the local artists, but we were also lucky enough to get to go to the Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw concert while we were there. It was a super hot day for an outdoor concert but so much fun. Faith Hill even made a guest appearance and sang with Tim.

As mentioned earlier, my family loves to fish so we did a lot of that this summer. We usually go to Lake Texoma and striper fish, that's our favorite! I've been going there since I was 9, and still love it. We'll wake up early in the morning to fish, come back in and take a nap, go out on the lake to play, then have a fish fry at night. Not much beats those kind of days. My Mema will even make homemade ice cream to go with the fish, I can taste it now… yum!

I'm sure you can tell by now that my family loves the outdoors. Our last trip of the summer was to Red River, NM to ride 4-wheelers. Picture this… gorgeous mountains, friend and family, highs in the 70s/80s and lows in the 40s/50s. Oh and to make it even better, NO cell phone service! That's what a vacation is supposed to be like!

That's where my summer went! I hope you also had a great summer. Now it's back to school… I had better get to my homework! Until next time, you can follow my on Facebook or on Twitter @ShelbyWX
