Late Monday night a 2013 video surfaced of OU House Mom Beauton Gilbow using the n-word several times in row.

In the short 6-second Vine, Gilbow uttered the n-word as she sang along to a rap song.

The video surfaced just minutes after an interview with Gilbow News 9's Kelly Ogle aired in which she said there was never any indication of racism in the house.

“Absolutely not, absolutely not,” she said.

Tuesday Gilbow issued a written statement:

"I have been made aware that a video of me that is circulating on social media and in the news. I am heartbroken by the portrayal that I am in some way racist. I have friends of all race and do not tolerate any form of discrimination in my life. I was singing along to a Trinidad song but completely understand how the video must appear in the context of the events that occurred this week."

“I don't know if she's a racist, but she is complicit,” said Dr. George Henderson, a long time professor at OU and author of “Race and the University” a book on racism at OU. “Certainly in 2015 with the dialogue we've had with that hurtful word certainly she's aware that it's hurtful.”

He said no matter who is using the word or how, it's not okay.

“No, it's not okay. That word is hurtful. The way you do something about those hateful words is not to use them.”

That, according to Dr. Henderson, includes the rapper who was singing the original song. And he said those who are indifferent to racism are worse than being racist.
