Our weather experts have been tracking windows of when pop-up storms could form in Green Country this week.
We've already seen a couple fire up Tuesday evening near Catoosa and Inola thanks to pictures sent to News On 6 from our viewers. Check this out! A pop-up storm near Inola even formed a full rainbow as the storm dissipated.
Feel free to send any of your weather pictures by emailing us at pics@newson6.net
We asked News On 6 Meteorologist Stacia Knight to explain a little bit of what pop-up storms are and how they form:
"They are very isolated. They just bubble up with daytime heating. They fall apart after sunset. It's just a very typical summer-like pattern that we get. Isolated pop-ups, showers, they're not a big deal. They're not going to be an issue for us. But as we take a look into today, we're going to see more of that throughout the area. And it's, again, not for everybody. Very hit and miss. They're not going to move much. They pretty much have to rain themselves out because the upper-level winds are very weak. They're not going to push them along. but literally a pop-up shower is a pop-up shower, one that pops up. The daytime heating allows the air to rise. Once we get rid of our daytime heating, any energy for the storms at that point will be weakening, and they're not going to see any development."
