MUSKOGEE, Okla.-- A new marina along the Arkansas River with boat docks, a gas station and new port offices is set to open next month at the Port of Muskogee.

David Davis at the port says The River Center at Three Forks Harbor will be the farthest inland all-weather marina along the country's inland river navigation system.

He says he expects people to bring their boats from the northern U.S. during winter and people from the Gulf during hurricane seasons.

The site where the Grand, Verdigris and Arkansas rivers converge has been known as Three Forks since the 1700s when French fur traders first came to trade with the American Indians.

The harbor is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is leased to the port authority to develop the property for recreation purposes.
