I love this time of year

I've all ways loved this time of year. I like the multitude of colors hanging from the tree's as they from canopies overhead.

Every time I step outside, there is always a crisp bite to the wind that greets you.

The smells of utilized fireplaces permeate the neighborhoods as I drive to and from work.

At a young age, I discovered that I preferred the fall and winter months. The summers in Oklahoma are sometimes unbearable. No matter how hot you become, you can only get so naked, and eventually, that doesn't help.

In the winter, you can always put on another sweater or grab another blanket.

My wife and I like the fall so much, we were married outside on the side of a mountain on Halloween. We had a bon fire that burned for two days.

The holidays that are celebrated during this time of year are hands down my favorite. The sporting events that are televised during the fall are just an added bonus.

It never fails that during this time a year, I hear from a long lost buddy or family member. I still haven't figured out if it's because they're reminiscing, or if they've had too much eggnog and remembered I owed them something.

There are, however, things that I hate about this time of year.

I don't like how early stores start setting up their Christmas display's. We haven't even celebrated Halloween and there are stores that have already marked down Halloween merchandise. They have to because the 23 aisles of Christmas merchandise aren't enough.

What about the shoppers that clog those 23 aisles? Aren't they just adorable? This time of year changes sweet old grandma's into elbow throwing, cart thrusting, bargain hunting survivalist. I lost my goiter to one of these people three years ago.

I also think that this time of year brings out people who shouldn't be driving. You know who I'm referring to. They sometimes do okay on the highways, but as soon as they get in a parking lot or decide to travel cross country to visit someone, that's when things get hairy. When the weather gets bad out, that's when the real fun starts.

No matter how weird and rude people become, they can never diminish my excitement about my favorite day of the year.

My favorite thing day of year is the day that station runs ‘A Christmas Story' back to back for 24 hours. My boy and I usually fall asleep in front of the TV after eating ourselves silly on turkey sandwiches.
