OKLAHOMA CITY -- David Picard has never lived anywhere near Galveston, but somehow a trunk full of the Bethany's native's memorabilia washed ashore on the Texas island this week.

Dodd Brunette found the chest floating in a channel on the shores of Galveston. Inside there was a letter from General State College in Edmond, Oklahoma addressed to Picard.

NEWS 9 tracked down Picard who now lives in Seattle. He says he hasn't seen the trunk in years, since his divorce in 1983.

His ex-wife and the trunk moved to Galveston. Her home flooded during Hurricane Ike this fall.

After eight months at sea, the trunk suddenly resurfaced, loaded with photos, school papers and a track patch from a Harrah High School track meet.

"It's incredible," Picard said. "Incredible when it happens to you."
